About this school
BRICK Gateway Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving kindergarten through 12th grade across three Newark campuses. It was formed on July 1, 2023, when Achieve Community Charter School and People’s Preparatory Charter School merged under the BRICK Education Network, creating a single K–12 pathway in Newark’s South Ward. BRICK Education Network, which stands for Building Responsible, Intelligent, Creative Kids, also anchors the South Ward Promise Neighborhood, a community partnership focused on education and family support in the neighborhood.
Programs and services reported by the school: Science of Reading early literacy: systematic phonics instruction and content-rich listening lessons in the elementary grades. College and career counseling: high school students get college counseling starting in 9th grade, SAT preparation, early college credit opportunities, and help with financial aid applications. Wraparound family support: through the South Ward Promise Neighborhood, the school pairs classroom instruction with two-generation family resources, including counseling, parent workshops, and social-service coordination. Transportation and care: free before- and after-school care for K–8 students, and eligible students can ride NJ Transit or school bus transportation for free. NJSIAA athletics, arts, and student clubs are also offered at the high school.
BRICK Gateway Academy is free to attend and does not require entrance exams. Families apply through Newark Common App. Use the current application link in How to apply. The K–4 elementary and 5–8 middle school campuses are on Clinton Avenue, and the high school campus is downtown on Broad Street. Students can complete their entire K–12 education within the network without re-entering the admissions lottery between grade bands.
