About this school

Newark Educators Community Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school serving Pre-K3 through 4th grade at a single campus on Fulton Street in downtown Newark. Founded by Newark public school teachers, it focuses on early childhood and elementary education, including a free preschool program for Newark residents.

Programs and services reported by the school:

  • Early-childhood specialization: a developmentally focused curriculum with purposeful play, early phonics, and hands-on discovery, one of few charter options offering free Pre-K3.
  • Small school community: close educator-parent relationships and a family-resource program including food pantry referrals and basic-needs assistance.
  • Partnership: a formal collaboration with Kean University.

No tuition and no entrance exam. Siblings of enrolled students receive priority in the Newark Common App lottery.

Program details above are reported by the school. Reported enrollment for 2025–26 is 116 students (NJDOE).
