Today, Thursday, April 16, 2009, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) posted on its website, the preliminary American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) allocation of funds for Title I and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These funds create an unprecedented opportunity for educators to implement innovative strategies to improve education for at-risk students in Title I schools and to improve outcomes for children and youth with disabilities, while also stimulating the economy. 6 Newark Charter School Applications Filed

According to a press release from the New Jersey Department of Education dated April 13, 2009, twenty-seven applications were received for proposed new charter schools. Among them, six are requesting to open new charter schools in Newark.

Newark Educators’ Community Charter School will open its doors in September 2009 to serve 200 students in grades K through 3. The school will add a grade each year until it reaches its full enrollment of 400 students in grades K-8.

The school staff is dedicated to the belief that middle school youth, who are provided with a mixture of attention from caring adults and competent professionals, a computer-based approach to the curriculum, an effective individualized instruction plan and a personalized counseling program, will succeed in becoming confident, capable life-long learners.

Greater Newark Charter School provides students and families a structured, safe, learning environment where academic achievement is encouraged and strengthened. GNCS seeks to work in partnership with families and communities to assure all students are equipped with the essential skills and habits necessary to acquire knowledge and understanding.

The Gray Charter School’s mission is to provide its diverse student body the best possible education by focusing on the fundamental academic disciplines in an atmosphere that affirms academic achievements, and in so doing, to offer the community true choice in public education.

The Lady Liberty Academy faculty is dedicated to have all children be active learners who participate in constructing knowledge and understanding; and provide them with the necessary resources and learning opportunities so they can transform their thoughts into concrete tools that can be used to shape and control their environment.
